Soft Pink and Magenta Reversible Hutu Hat

SOFT PINK AND MAGENTA

Reversible hat with a bellflower silhouette and flared brim.

Made in Soft Pink and Magenta, handwoven Eri (peace) silk fabrics dyed with Manjistha from the North-Eastern Himalayan range, a flowering plant cultivated for its rich red pigment extract.

The fabrics are woven in rural Assam, Northeast India, where a network of female artisans perform the complete farm-to-fabric process; from rearing indigenous silkmoths to spinning- and weaving the durable and wool-like cloth on traditional handlooms. When producing Eri silk, the strands are carefully unraveled from the silkworms’ cocoons only after the moths have fully emerged. This ethical process stands in contrast to conventional silk production, where silkworms are boiled within their cocoons. Eri culture is deeply rooted in the folklife of Assam, passed down through generations and symbolic of the region's sentiments towards nature and its resources.
