Made in Dots & Checks, a textile print based on an original watercolour by artist, illustrator and map-maker Emily Faccini. Her layered compositions combine translucent watercolour and opaque gouache, applied with flat and fan brushes. The pattern is printed onto Khadi - a cotton that is grown, hand-spun and hand-woven into cloth in India. 

The processes of Khadi are carried out by remote artisans - small farmers, spinners, ginners and weavers - working within larger craft networks across the Indian state of Gujarat. Guided by Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy of “Swaraj,” or self-government, they work collectively towards sustaining rural livelihoods and preserving indigenous raw materials and craft traditions.
